Looking for festive winter activities? Here are a few great options a short drive from Glendale Heights:
Admission to the Cosley Zoo is free during the Festival of Lights, which is held from late November until December 30th. Wander through 20,000 twinkling lights, enjoy hot chocolate, and even purchase a live Christmas tree. The zoo is open from 9 am until 9 pm daily (except for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve when it’s only open until noon and it’s closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day). The lights start shining at 3 pm.
The Morton Arboretum
Another nearby attraction is Illumination at The Morton Arboretum. Walk along a one-mile path and watch the lights dance to music. Don’t worry about the frigid temperatures; there are warming tents and fire pits along the path. Make sure you pay special attention when you reserve online because tickets are for a specific date and time.
Lincoln Park Zoo
Head into the city to experience all the holiday happenings in Chicago. Through January 7th, stroll through Lincoln Park Zoo and admire the animals, lights, and ice sculptures that are a part of ZooLights.
If you have kids, they will love Winter WonderFest at Navy Pier which has a toboggan tunnel, sledding hill, and carnival rides. It’s open daily from December 1st until January 7th.
Caroling at Cloud Gate
Plan your trip on a Friday if you want to go caroling at Cloud Gate. On December 1st, 8th, and 15th at 6 pm, you can join thousands of others in singing Christmas carols in front of the gigantic stainless steel sculpture fondly called “The Bean.”
Museum of Science and Industry
Every year the Museum of Science and Industry has more than 50 displays and trees from around the world. This year’s special exhibit features interactive robots. “Christmas Around the World” runs through January 7th.
